Sponsors and Partners Offer Interactive Fan Experiences in Sustainable Mobility in Allianz E-Village

HONG KONG, 24 November 2017 – Formula E Racing (Hong Kong) Ltd, the organiser of the 2017 FIA Formula E HKT Hong Kong E-Prix, today confirmed details of the key activities at the Allianz E-Village. Taking place on 2-3 December at Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront, the fan zone will bring to life the world of sustainable mobility through a variety of engaging activities and immersive experiences.

The focus on sustainable mobility and entertainment in the Allianz E-Village provide the perfect accompaniment for the electrifying action on-track with two separate races being held across the weekend in the first ever Formula E doubleheader in Asia.

Under this event’s tagline of ‘Create Your Future’, the Allianz E-Village will give visitors a glimpse of the next generation of transportation, and what a sustainable future truly means for Hong Kong.

Participating car marques will showcase their latest innovations and technology around electric vehicle development, while other partners of the international sporting spectacle will share their sustainability ideas through interactive games and virtual reality journeys.

Spread across its Tamar Park and Lung Wo Road locations, fans can look forward to an array of family-friendly activities at the Allianz E-Village at the 2017 HKT Hong Kong E-Prix:

FWD
The Pan-Asian insurer is also back for a second year as the event’s Platinum Sponsor. Under the theme of “Conquer the wind. The British luxury car brand’s interactive driver allows visitors to explore the I-TYPE via augmented reality, learn about its Formula E drivers through fun video interviews, and relive the highlights of all the destinations Jaguar raced in Season 3 with its RFID track engagement.

Renault
Renault returns to the Allianz E-Village in Hong Kong to celebrate Renault e-dams’ unprecedented “FIA Formula E Triple Championship” win back in July, and to showcase the New Renault Zoe, a 100% electric car with an impressive 400KM range on one charge*. There will be a number of family-friendly fun activities and games on offer, plus a few special surprises across the weekend. Follow Renault Hong Kong on Facebook to find out more.

IVE Engineering Discipline Solar Car
Hong Kong’s largest vocational education, training, and professional development group will be showcasing some of the city’s emerging technological innovations supported by the Council, including its Solar-Powered Electric Vehicle ‘SOPHIE’ Project. Developed by a team of IVE Engineering Discipline staff and students, the project’s aim is to promote renewable energy and green technology. “SOPHIE” is an acronym of the team’s philosophy, standing for “Strive, Obligation, Partnership, Harmony, Innovation and Exploration”. Fans who visit the VTC booth will be introduced to SOPHIE, while two other solar cars created by a group of talented secondary students will also be on display.

HONG KONG, 14 November 2017 – Gaming enthusiasts in Hong Kong will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pit their skills against some of the world’s top drivers in the 2017 FIA Formula E HKT Hong Kong E-Prix E-Race Tournament on 2 and 3 December at the Central Harbourfront.
On December 2 and 3, visitors of all ages will be able to share in the e-Sports action at the Gaming Zone at the Allianz E-Village at Tamar Park.

Qualifying heats will be held daily between 0800 and 1230, pitting gamers – driving an actual Formula E simulator – against the track, and each other, along a simulated Hong Kong track with all of the hairpin turns and launch pad straightaways of the already iconic Central Harbourfront circuit.

The two top drivers with the fastest overall times each day in qualifying, and two other winners from sim races organised by other HKT Hong Kong E-Prix partners will advance to the daily final at 12.45 where they will test their mettle against the pros – four Formula E drivers, in the grand showdown.

All 20 HKT Hong Kong E-Prix racers will take part in their own qualifying competition on Friday, 1 December, with the top eight booking their places in the Saturday and Sunday finals, four each day.

The E-Race is a natural evolution in Formula E’s continuing search for the ultimate in fan engagement experiences, following its innovative development of the FANBOOST, which invites millions of fans around the world to upvote their favourite drivers, with the top three vote winners getting a boost in power for each race, potentially having a direct impact on the outcomes.

And this is not the first-time that drivers on the FIA Formula Championship are taking on virtual motor racing enthusiasts. Back in January, they competed against 10 sim racers at one of the most influential technology shows in the world in Las Vegas, for a grand prize of US$200,000, the biggest prize in e-Sport racing history.
Formula E and the HKT Hong Kong E-Prix is a nexus for the growing popularity of e-sports worldwide, with both sports sharing an emphasis on technological advancement and innovation and a truly immersive fan experience.
Formula E’s continued ventures into e-Sports highlights the similarities in both the real and virtual motorsport worlds – highly competitive, entertaining, and fan inclusive, but always with the unbridled excitement of high-speed racing at its heart.

The e-Sport phenomenon has exploded in popularity around the world, and hit Hong Kong earlier this year with the first ever hosting of the Hong Kong e-Sports Festival in August.
Alan Fang, CEO of Formula E Racing Hong Kong Ltd, said:
“E-Sport is sweeping the world and we see a bright future for Formula E and the HKT Hong Kong E-Prix in this space. The E-Race is a natural fit within race weekend because of the extraordinary level of direct interaction we can have with fans.
“It is our aim to find new and innovative ways to actively engage our audience, and after the thrill of watching the drivers speed by them on the track, fans in Hong Kong can actually race against them in the E-Race Tournament.”
Formula E is a ground-breaking international urban street racing championship with 14 races across 11 major cities around the globe including Hong Kong, New York, London and Paris.
The 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix will launch the fourth season of the FIA Formula E Championship with the first ever double header race in Asia, with two distinct races held along Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront on December 2 and 3, 2017.
