2017 FIA Formula E Hong Kong E-Prix E-Village Brings Fans Closer to the Action Than Ever Before

Over 23,000 entries submitted in the public ballot for tickets to the free fan zone

HONG KONG, 26 September 2017 – Fans with access to the 2017 FIA Formula E Hong Kong E-Prix, either through grandstand seating or the free public ballot can look forward to an enhanced E-Village experience that offers an array of on-and-off track activities and entertainment suitable for the entire family.

The 29,900 sqm facility located at Lung Wo Road (13,600 sqm) and Tamar Park (16,300) will bring visitors closer to the heart of urban electric car racing than ever before with the latest innovations from cutting-edge concepts on display to fully-immersive fan experiences and interactive activations by the world’s leading car manufacturers and tech start-ups. A giant screen showing live action from the track can also be found at the E-Village to ensure visitors are always up-to-date with the latest on the double-header season opener.

Fans can satisfy their curiosity for electric car racing through participation in activities across a number of zones, which tell the story of Formula E and have proven extremely popular at other stops on the Formula E calendar. At Explorer Zone, visitors can test how their fitness fairs up against some of the greatest names in motorsport through innovative challenges developed from the latest cutting-edge concepts while Drive Zone is one not to be missed by all car lovers as futuristic concepts in e-mobility and electric vehicles will feature alongside the world’s leading car brands and their visions for the future.

For budding motor racing drivers, Gaming Zone is the place to be. The E-race tournament held on both Saturday and Sunday of the racing weekend will provide those who have a love for speed an opportunity to challenge the professional drivers on the simulators. All 20 drivers of the FIA Formula E Championship will participate in a qualifying round on Friday December 1 with eight fastest going through as finalists. There will be a Saturday and a Sunday final, represented each day by four of the professional finalists. The two fans with the fastest time recorded in the run up to the finals on the Saturday and Sunday will be invited to take part, while the remaining two slots will be filled by winners of social media competitions.

It is Formula E’s mission to inspire and educate the next generation about the future of motorsport and the importance of sustainability, and young families at this year’s race in Hong Kong can get a hands-on lesson at the Inspire and Kid Zones on how technology is driving sustainable development programmes.

To further enhance the E-Village fan experience and broaden its appeal to non-electric car racing fans, entertainment for the masses is being developed to supplement the overall programme. There will be a Taste Zone, which will offer the finest in affordable international cuisine alongside local favourites. For the social media savvy, plenty of options exist for Instagrammable content, such as opportunities to meet drivers, photos at the Formula E podium ceremony, and wefies with Formula E mascots Acee and Dcee! And for the chillers who simply want to take advantage of the beautiful Hong Kong winter weather and enjoy a day outdoors, they can relax in the Recharge zone and engage with the Formula E App.

Grandstand ticket holders, public ballot winners, EMOTION Club guests, and Race Suite VIPs will all enjoy complimentary access to the E-Village. So far, BMW, Coca-Cola, E-Race, Maritime Museum, Monster, Renault, RTM Merchandise, and TAG Heuer are amongst the leading brands confirmed to engage with fans at the E-Village.

Over 23,000 people have entered the public ballot for tickets to the Hong Kong E-Prix E-Village so far and fans can register on or before 30 September via the Hong Kong E-Prix website at ballot.hkformulae.com. A ballot draw will be held on 9 October with winners notified by email the following day. Ballot winners will have until 31 October to claim their E-tickets, otherwise their tickets will be placed into the second ballot.

For those who missed the first-round ticket application deadline, there will be a second opportunity to win once final registration closes on the 31 October. Any unclaimed tickets, will be returned into the pool and a final ballot draw will be held on 9 November until 20,000 E-Village tickets are distributed. All those who did not win in round one and those who registered during the month of October will be automatically entered into the second ballot.

Mr. Alan Fang, CEO of Formula Electric Racing (Hong Kong) Limited, said, “The E-Village is the heartbeat of the race weekend at the Hong Kong E-Prix because it provides a platform that brings together all of the fans. We are overwhelmed by the public response to our free E-Village ticket ballot and it confirms for us the interest in Formula E continues to grow across Hong Kong and that the local community is very excited about its return.

Whether you are a tech fanatic, a car or motor racing fan, or simply someone who is curious about what Formula E is, the Hong Kong E-Prix on December 2 and 3 is where you want to be. The inspirational educational message about the vision of Formula E comes through very strongly in the E-Village, and youth and those young at heart can learn a lot from what our partners and we have put together.”

“This year’s Hong Kong E-Prix is shaping up to be more exciting than ever before and we can’t thank the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, our partners and sponsors, and the working team enough for their contribution to this wonderful event. Without their support and efforts, an electric car road race in Hong Kong would only ever remain a concept”, Mr Fang added.

Formula E is a ground-breaking international urban street racing championship with races in some of the world’s major cities including New York, London, Paris and Hong Kong.

The 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix will launch the fourth season of the FIA Formula E Championship with the first ever double header race in Asia, with two distinct races held along Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront on December 2 and 3, 2017. The 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix is an accredited event celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The Tourism Commission and the Hong Kong Tourism Board fully support the 2017 FIA Formula E Hong Kong E-Prix.
