FIA Formula E HKT Hong Kong E-Prix Teams and Drivers Announced

Six new faces to join 20-car grid at the iconic Central Harbourfront Circuit

Hong Kong, 7 November 2017 — The entry list for the 2017 FIA Formula E HKT Hong Kong E-Prix on 2 – 3 December has been confirmed with six new drivers taking to the grid, with 14 returning talents including all three former champions.

Brazilian Lucas di Grassi returns to defend his title for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, and Renault e.dams’ Sébastien Buemi will also be looking to take a second championship after just missing out in the season three finale – both line up alongside their previous team-mates Daniel Abt and Nicolas Prost respectively. The inaugural Formula E champion Nelson Piquet Jr will switch to the Panasonic Jaguar Racing squad in a bid to return to the top of the points table with Mitch Evans in the sister car.

New drivers who will be racing at the Central Harbourfront track for the first time include Edoardo Mortara who joins Maro Engel at Venturi, Neel Jani who will partner Jérôme d’Ambrosio at DRAGON, André Lotterer lines up along Jean-Eric Vergne for TECHEETAH and Tom Blomqvist will join Antonio Felix da Costa at Andretti. Finally, Italian racer Luca Filippi completes the NIO Formula E Team with Oliver Turvey.

Alex Lynn will also make his debut in Hong Kong. The 24-year-old from Ilford is stepping up to a full-time driver for the DS Virgin Racing team after a one-off outing last season in New York City. Together with Sam Bird, the duo will round out an all-British line-up for the team. Mahindra Racing’s challengers remain unchanged, with 2016/17 top rookie Felix Rosenqvist partnering Nick Heidfeld.

Formula E is a ground-breaking international urban street racing championship with races in some of the world’s major cities including New York, London, Paris and Hong Kong.

The 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix will launch the fourth season of the FIA Formula E Championship with the first ever double header race in Asia, with two distinct races held along Hong Kong’s iconic Central Harbourfront on December 2 and 3, 2017. The 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix is an accredited event celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). The HKSAR Government and Hong Kong Tourism Commission fully support the 2017 Hong Kong E-Prix.
